How to use this resource (rationale)
This resource pack has been created for use in VCE Art and Studio Art as a starting point for information, activities and discussion points for the topic of Video Games as Art. Images, YouTube clips and written information has been included for ease of use, so that an educator can just pick it up and deliver the basics with minimal poking around.
The concept of ‘Artist – Artworld – Audience’ can be looked at rather extensively due to the experiential nature of video games and the necessity to have the audience (the player) present for it to work.
I have made an effort to choose works that encourage self-reflection, either through subject matter, gameplay or the ideas and influences behind them.

The resource is broken into sections: an introduction to what video games and interactive narratives are, information for several games and artworks, and further links and resources. Interspersed throughout the resource are various suggested classroom activities and discussion points.
There is a brief introduction to the types of exhibitions which video games have been displayed at in the past and regularly, such as an annual event.
Further research into the ways that game studios work and the processes of a small independent game design team and large game development company would tie in easily into the Studio Art’s art practices component.
